NatureQuest:LIT - Leaders in Training

For Youth Ages 15-17

The Leader in Training (LIT) program is the next step for teens who’ve grown through Nature Quest and are ready to lead, support others, and deepen their own learning. LITs are both learners and leaders—stepping into mentorship while continuing to grow their own skills, self-awareness, and confidence.

This is not just about helping out—it’s about real, meaningful leadership development in a supportive, nature-rooted community. LITs are not just assistants, they are Apprentice Guides.

🌿 The Purpose of the LIT Program

At ages 15–17, teens are ready for more responsibility and deeper engagement. As LITs, they take on a unique role: part mentor, part role model, part student. They help guide younger participants, assist staff, and practice the skills needed to lead with care, awareness, and integrity.

At the same time, they’re still part of the learning journey—earning advanced achievements, refining their guild skills, and receiving regular mentorship as they explore who they are and how they want to show up in the world.

🌱 Four Foundations of the LIT Journey

🌳 Connection to Nature

LITs continue practicing their earth-based skills—like tracking, crafting, storytelling, and nature awareness—but now they also learn how to share these with others. They help guide younger participants, lead small activities, and develop confidence teaching in natural spaces.

🧭 Connection to Self

Through reflection, feedback, and real-world experience, LITs build emotional intelligence, communication skills, and personal confidence. They learn to identify their strengths, work through challenges, and explore what kind of leader they want to be.

🤝 Connection to Community

LITs take on an important social role within the Nature Quest group. They help create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. They practice collaboration, support mentors, and learn how to step up (or step back) depending on what’s needed.  They continue to participate in games and play, keeping a vital cord alive to their childhood selves through adolescence.

🕊️ Connection to the Sacred

Leadership at WildWise is about more than logistics—it’s about meaning. LITs help hold the culture of WildWise through story, song, ritual, and care. They learn that leading is also about listening, honoring the land, and being present for others, and holding integrity to what is sacred to them.

What LITs do

🛠️ Continue Their Own Journey

The path of the LIT is never stagnant. While mentoring younger adventurers, LITs continue to deepen their own skills, guild identities, and mythic mastery. Whether refining their Ranger tracking, crafting new Bardic tales, becoming proficient in Voyager orienteering, or learning more in depth ecology as a Mystic,  LITs are still active participants in the mythic world.

They also earn advanced achievements and ritual marks, recognizing their growth as both individuals and leaders.

🌀 Practice Mentorship

Through shadowing mentors, holding gentle authority, and modeling virtues, LITs step into the art of leadership. They learn how to tend the group fire, support the hesitant, guide with humility, and listen like the forest.

Leadership here isn’t about command—it’s about presence, service, awareness, kindness, and respect.

🌿 Hold the Container

LITs help uphold the sacred play of Nature Quest by leading games and activities. They prep story props, spark imaginative quests, hold circles, anchor rhythms, and if participating in LARP, act as Quest Leaders and NPC’s, learning how to create and carry out a Quest. They’re a bridge between the adult mentor and the young learner.

🌱 Why This Matters

Being a Leader in Training is not about perfection. It’s about becoming. It’s about learning how to lead while still learning how to live. It’s about making mistakes, receiving feedback, rising again.

LITs are the living legacy of Nature Quest. They carry the roots of what came before and the seeds of what’s yet to bloom.

🦉 Who They Are Becoming

LITs are:

  • Curious students of life and lore
  • Steady voices in the chaos of a windy game
  • Creators of enchantment and anchors of safety
  • Carriers of culture, kindness, and courage

✨ Why It Matters

The LIT program is designed to prepare teens not just for future roles at WildWise—but for life. It builds confidence, character, and a sense of belonging. It gives youth a chance to lead in a real way, while still being supported and guided by caring mentors.

Leadership here isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about showing up, growing through the process, and learning to make a meaningful difference.

2026 - 27 School Year
